Traffic Advisory
INDIANAPOLIS, IN - A five mile stretch of southbound I-65, from the Marion / Johnson County line (100 mile marker) to the Whiteland exit, (95 mile marker) is frozen and has been the scene of over a dozen crashes of varying severity between 6:30 this morning and the time of this release at 7:30 a.m.
Thus far, the most severe crash involved injury to a child, however the injuries, at this time, are not believed to be life threatening. No further information about this crash is available at this time.
Until sometime after 9:00 this morning motorists trying to take I-65 SB out of the Indianapolis area are advised to seek alternate routes, such as U.S. 31 to S.R. 44 and then back onto I-65. The northbound lanes of I-65 have not been affected as severely as the southbound lanes.
Motorists involved in crashes that do not involve injury and where the vehicle is still drivable are encouraged to exchange information with the other driver to include name, address, driver license number, vehicle type and license plate number along with the name of the insurance carrier, policy number and agent phone number. This exchange of information should take place off the roadway in a safe place.
As conditions or circumstances warrant, there may be an update to this release.
