Central Indiana Film Technology Developer Experiences Rapid Growth

INDIANAPOLIS, IN - Cine-tal Systems, a developer of image processing and display technology products used in the motion picture and television production industry, announced today its plans to double revenues, employees and customers in 2008 with assistance from Indiana's 21st Century Research and Technology Fund.

Cine-tal received a $2 million 21st Century Research and Technology Fund grant in 2007 to further develop and market its Cinemage product line.  Since, the company has increased its staff by 50 percent and moved into a new 17,000-square-foot facility on the city's north side where it has begun product manufacturing and development operations and is poised to launch five new products by the end of 2008.

"The 21st Century Fund is a powerful tool aimed at growing new and innovative companies like Cine-tal Systems that are working to bring cutting edge technologies to the marketplace," said Governor Mitch Daniels.

Founded in 2003, the company develops and manufactures image processing and display technology for use in production and postproduction of cinema, television and video.  Its Cinemage high-definition monitor allows production crews on set to apply color processing instantly for preview purposes without permanently changing the raw image data.  The real-time application ensures what is captured on the set can be processed in postproduction to meet the desired look of the director and cinematographer.

"Indiana's entrepreneur programs have made a positive impact on growing 21st century jobs like ours in Indiana," said Rob Carroll, President and chief executive of Cine-tal Systems.  "Through the 21st Century Fund and the Venture Capital Tax Credit, Cine-tal Systems has been able to accelerate product development that will result in continued job growth over the next 18 months."

With industry icons like Pixar, DreamWorks and Warner Brothers as customers, Cine-tal is scoring national acclaim.  Millimeter Magazine called the product a "Pick Hit" and Digital Content Producer named the product one of its top 10.

"The divergence of technology used in displaying media in the home, the theater and in our mobile devices creates new requirements for image Quality Assurance and Quality Control when creating content for these displays, said Steve Jensen, Vice President of Engineering at WFYI. "Cine-tal is establishing a leadership role in developing new methods for Studios producing the media that is played out to these new display technologies."

Although the company initially launched Cinemage to studios in Los Angeles and Chicago, it is now shipping nearly 60 percent of its products to international markets.

Cine-tal is one of 51 businesses awarded a 21st Century Fund grant since January 2006.  During that time, the fund has invested more than $62 million in high-tech Indiana entrepreneurial companies which expect to create more than 6,000 new jobs.
