Lt. Gov. Skillman Announces 2008 Hoosier Rising Star Competition
INDIANAPOLIS, IN - In an effort to acknowledge the contributions youth make in our rural communities, Lt. Governor Becky Skillman today launched the 2008 Hoosier Rising Star Award. This honor will be awarded to as many as five young Hoosiers who have made a significant difference in their Indiana communities.
Hoosiers are encouraged to nominate an outstanding youth in their community. Any student enrolled in grades K-12 during the 2007-08 school year is eligible for the Hoosier Rising Star Award.
"There are many young Hoosiers who have rolled up their sleeves for their communities, and they deserve recognition," said Lt. Gov. Skillman. "This award allows the state to recognize Indiana's outstanding youth and to encourage them to continue to be model citizens."
Lt. Gov. Skillman awarded Madison McCorkle of Kokomo last year for her work to raise money for domestic violence prevention causes. McCorkle was first recipient of the Hoosier Rising Star Award.
A completed nomination form is required. Nominations may be supplemented by the student's resume or biography, up to three letters of recommendation, and any relevant press clippings. All application materials should be submitted together and must be postmarked by April 1, 2008. Winners will be announced in the summer of 2008.
