Eulogy for the Clinton Campaign

I do not think that Hillary Clinton will get the Democratic nomination this year.  As it stands now, the numbers are too much against her.  But, I do think she has the stuff to have made a good president.  She is smart, she is tenacious, she is tough, and she is a fighter.  What more would we want in our president?

She began her campaign under the broad umbrella of her husband and perhaps just a little overconfident.  Then came the February nose dive.  She lost momentum and perhaps lost her cool just a little.  Ex-president Bill Clinton practically hijacked her campaign, with disastrous results.

She found her voice again.  Put Bill in the background and with gargantuan, 24-7 effort won the popular vote in Texas and in Ohio by a substantial margin.  She has finally – albeit a bit too late -- made herself into an attractive public figure.  Through this campaign, she has demonstrated a range of human traits, sometimes gracious, sometimes angry, often sarcastic, and always caring.  Notice her willingness to go one about health insurance, particularly for the poor and weak in your society.

Hillary will not be our next president, but her tough campaign has put Barak Obama to the test.  By doing so she has given us the opportunity to see how Obama handles adversity.  A Time Magazine writer called Clinton’s Texas and Ohio wins “…his [Obama’s] red-phone moment.”  He has measured up very well.  It seems he too will make an fine next president.
