Barack Obama and the race card. Why is it even mentioned ??

I was talking to a friend the other day about race and racism . He informed me that growing up that he didn't have the luxury of a race. Having mixed parents ,one black , one white , he exclaimed that he was picked on and discriminated against by both races. Neither wanting anything to do with him. I know quite a few people these days with the same story.
So what is the deal with Barak Obama ?? Why is he so adamately stating he is African-American ?? Like my friend and so many others . He is African-Caucasion American . So why is race playing such a big issue , when the candidate in question isn't African-American . He is in fact American,
but with a mixed background and there is nothing wrong with that . What is wrong is the fact the media will not leave race out of it . They keep fueling the racist fire that we keep trying so hard to put out.

Jeff, you are so correct about the media.  They want to create conflct and they will grasp at any straw they can in order to do it.

Barak keeps mentioning his African heratige because that seems to help him with African-American voters.  Its politics.... I don't like it but it is.  However, his mentioning his race over and over does not seem to have hurt him with white voters.  Very interesting.
