State Police Announce “Click It or Ticket”

Operation Pull Over Blitz 55 is in effect

PENDLETON, IN -  First Sergeant Tim Kaiser, Acting Commander of the Indiana State Police Pendleton District, has announced troopers will be participating in the upcoming “Click It or Ticket” campaign.  The statewide “Click It or Ticket” seat belt mobilization will take place from May 16 – June 1.  There is an emphasis this year on convincing more motorists to buckle up day and night. Troopers will be observing for unrestrained motorists around the clock.  Through high-visibility enforcement efforts all drivers and passengers in the Hoosier state will be reminded to buckle up.

According to the 2007 annual observational survey Indiana’s overall observed seat belt usage rate increased from 62.1 percent in 2000 to a record high of 88.4 percent in 2007.  The survey reported a 22 point increase in seat belt usage among pick up truck drivers – jumping from 49.5 percent in 2005 to 71.5 percent in 2007.

Troopers will be eligible to work overtime hours in addition to regular shifts or on days off to participate in the enforcement initiative.  The funding is made possible through a federal traffic safety grant.  Motorists can expect zero tolerance if they are caught unrestrained.  Under Indiana law anyone 16 years of age or older can receive a ticket if they are caught not wearing a safety belt.  Drivers can be ticketed for allowing any passenger under the age of 16 to ride in their vehicle unrestrained.  Your best chance of surviving a crash is by being properly restrained.
