GemStreet USA Show on July 18-20 to showcase local and national artists

INDIANAPOLIS, IN - There are not many places in town where residents can find items ranging from a dollar glass bead to a five thousand dollar gem-laden bracelet to a priceless million-year-old fossil all under one roof. For three days in July, these one-of-a-kind finds will be showcased at the GemStreet USA Show & Sale, July 18-20, at the Indiana State Fairgrounds “Pioneer our Land” building.

This national show that specializes in jewelry, beads, gemstones, crystals, minerals and fossils comes to Indiana featuring a host of international artists, as well as several local artists, who will showcase their jewelry.

As part of its 10th anniversary celebration, one lucky person who attends the GemStreet USA will win a  commemorative bracelet made of Swarovski pearls and crystals valued at $200. Designed by Helene Kirzner, the GemStreet Bracelet features 10 multi-faceted round Swarovski crystals, surrounded by a cascade of crystal-studded rondelles and pale gray and white Swarovski pearls. The ten crystals are representative of each year GemStreet has been in business, and crystals are the recognized gemstone for a 10th anniversary.

“It’s an honor for us to have a nationally renowned artist like Helene Kirzner design this bracelet as a way of celebrating a decade in business,” says Jane Strieter-Smith, founder of the show. “Giving away a beautiful piece of jewelry is our way of giving back to the community that has supported us over the years.”

In addition to Kirzner, a host of other artists from around the country will feature fine jewelry in 14- and 18-karat gold, silver and copper, intricate beadwork, wire wrapping, along with aisles of gemstones, beads, pearls and crystals. And those who enjoy making their own jewelry will find all the beads, tools and findings.

Local artists include jewel and mineral expert Maria Celeste who will showcasing everything from sculptured desert stones from Utah in varying shades of red, to mugglestones from South Africa with stripes of shiny dark silver, yellow, red and purple. In addition to crystals and minerals, Celeste offers beautiful finished jewelry from renowned artist Feather Spirit, who is exhibited in 50 art galleries worldwide.

Hoosier Kelly Hempton of Art & Soul Beads will feature a new collection of brightly colored lucite vintage beads. These hoops, loops and florals from the 1950s and 1960s add a vibrant twist to any piece of jewelry. She also offers a wide variety of Swarovski crystal clasps and toggles. As a special benefit for those who make their own jewelry, Hempton provides how-to diagrams to correspond with finished pieces of jewelry on display for people to create at home.

Show hours are Friday and Saturday 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sunday 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tickets are $7 general admission, $5 for seniors and students, and free for children under 12. The ticket is good all weekend. The Indiana State Fairgrounds is located at 1202 East 38th Street, Indianapolis, Indiana 46205.
