Indiana and Ohio Troopers Play Ball for C.O.P.S.

FORT WAYNE, IN - In 2007, Indiana State Police Trooper Shaun Armes and Ohio Highway Patrolman Adam Brincefield collaborated on a tournament in order to get members of the two agencies together for a day of family, fun, and wiffleball.  Thus, the inaugural “Battle of the Badges” wiffleball tournament was born.  The tournament pitted various six-person teams from each agency against each other in a single-elimination format, with the winner to have both bragging rights and possession of the trophy for that year.  In 2007, the winner of the inaugural tournament was the Indiana State Police.

This year’s tournament, which was held in rural Van Wert, Ohio, again saw four teams from the Indiana State Police match their wiffleball skills against three teams from the Ohio Highway Patrol.  The Indiana State Police teams were made up of troopers from the Fort Wayne, Redkey, Pendleton, Seymour, and Versailles Posts.  The Indiana Troopers Association (ITA) and the Indiana State Police Alliance (ISPA) were co-sponsors of the event which brought family, friends, children, and fellow troopers together in the spirit of camaraderie and sportsmanship.  The two agencies also focused their efforts for the event to raise money for their State’s respective Concerns of Police Survivors (C.O.P.S) chapters.  The tournament raised $750 which will be evenly shared by each agency.

Troopers from the Indiana State Police will present their share of the money raised on Thursday, July 31, 2008, when riders supporting Indiana C.O.P.S will be riding to the Indiana State Police Post in Fort Wayne.

Trooper Armes would like to congratulate the Ohio Highway Patrol, as they claimed this year’s tournament trophy.  “We will be eagerly awaiting next year’s rematch”, Trooper Armes said.
