ETT scheduled for deployment to Afghanistan

INDIANAPOLIS, IN – The Indiana National Guard continues to support the Global War on Terrorism as part of its dual mission to support the nation.

Embedded Training Team 55 is scheduled to deploy to Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom in October.

The 18-person unit will counsel and mentor the Afghan national army and the Afghan national police while in the war-torn country. The team, commanded by Col. Wayne Black, began its pre-mobilization training July 19 at Camp Atterbury Joint Maneuver Training Center and is scheduled to begin its mobilization training on August 19 at Fort Riley, Kansas. Black is from Indianapolis, and the unit’s top enlisted Soldier, Command Sgt. Major Thomas Severe, from Brownsburg, Ind.

"We are indebted to these Citizen-Soldiers and their families for the sacrifices they will endure. These Hoosier Guardsmen are a superb and indispensable part of the team chosen to exhibit their skills in executing the Global War on Terrorism," said Maj. Gen. Umbarger.
