Indiana Army National Guard Soldier Killed in Iraq

INDIANAPOLIS, IN - Governor Mitch Daniels and the Adjutant General of Indiana, Maj. Gen. R. Martin Umbarger, regretfully report the death on Saturday, Aug. 2, of an Indiana National Guard Soldier who was killed while on deployment in Iraq.

Sergeant Brian K. Miller, 37, of Pendleton, Ind., died from injuries suffered in a vehicle accident during combat operations in Abd Allah, Iraq. Sgt. Miller deployed as a member of Company D, 1st Battalion, 293rd Infantry Regiment, 76th Brigade Combat Team, headquartered in Huntington, Indiana.

"I would like to extend my deepest sympathy to the family and friends of Sergeant Miller, who lost his life in the service of his nation," said Umbarger. "It is with true and personal sorrow that we acknowledge his sacrifice. Our thoughts and prayers are with his loved ones."
