2008 Third Quarter Competitive Grants
MUNCIE, IN - The Community Foundation of Muncie and Delaware County, Inc. has announced that 10 grants totaling $75,147 have been awarded to local nonprofit agencies and groups in the Foundation’s second competitive grant cycle of 2008.
The grants are awarded in five areas of interest: arts and culture, human services, economic development, education, and community betterment.
Third quarter grant recipients include:
- College Mentors for Kids! Inc. received $5,000 (from the Morris Youth Fund) to defray the cost of program expenses related to expansion of the Ball State Chapter. The program matches grade school students with college mentors to expose them to higher education and provide meaningful learning experiences on a college campus.
- Cornerstone Center for the Arts received $22,525 to defray the cost of scholarships and financial aid, program promotional materials, supplies, and operating expenses for the Cornerstone Arts Educational Program.
- Daleville Community Library received $2,874 (from the Jane Harrell Buckles Fund) to defray the cost of a new computer, printer, and software package to complete the third and final phase of the library’s technology upgrade.
- East Central Indiana Chamber Orchestra received $3,000 (from the Mary Jane Sursa Fund) to defray the cost of three free concerts for the residents of East Central Indiana.
- Eaton Public Library received $9,610 to defray the cost of new technology upgrade for the library’s free tutoring program and to provide funding for a new adult educational outreach program.
- Habitat for Humanity received $8,000 to defray the cost of an advertising campaign to promote the new Home Discount Center.
- Harvest Moon Film Festival received $5,000 (from the Mary Kate Pingry Fund) to defray the cost of the 2008 Harvest Moon Film Festival, a three day event highlighting original films from the Midwest.
- Muncie Children’s Museum received $8,819 to defray the cost of purchase and installation of a new phone system.
- VSA Arts of Indiana – East Central District received $5,000 (from the Morris Youth Fund) to defray the cost of KidArt, a program for preschoolers and their caregivers, providing a playgroup experience in art, music, and dance.
- Yorktown – Mt. Pleasant Community Library received $5,319 (from the Morris Youth Fund) to defray the cost of a program that uses trained therapy dogs to encourage children to participate in and be excited about reading and gain confidence as they practice their reading fluency.
The Community Foundation of Muncie and Delaware County, Inc., established in 1985, is a publicly supported philanthropic institution governed by a volunteer board of local citizens. The Foundation manages contributions donated by individuals, businesses and corporations as a permanent community endowment. Distributions from these funds are given back to the community in the form of grants to nonprofit organizations and agencies. To date, over $28 million has been awarded to improve the lives of the residents of Muncie and Delaware County.
The next application deadline is October 10, 2008.
