Gannett Picks Indiana for National Service Center

INDIANAPOLIS, IN - International news and information company Gannett (NYSE:GCI) announced today it will locate its National Shared Services Center here, potentially creating up to 200 new jobs.

The Virginia-headquartered company will site the operation in space currently owned by the Indianapolis Star to provide accounts payable and general ledger services for the company.

"With operations across the country and around the world, Gannett could have located this operation anywhere.  The environment we have created and our relentless quest to attract new jobs allowed us to bring this operation to Indiana, paving the way for new opportunities for Hoosiers," said Governor Mitch Daniels.

Gannett has begun hiring managers and other financial professionals to staff the shared services center, which opened on a pilot basis in August.  The national consolidation of the company's support services is a first for the nation's largest newspaper publisher.

"Indiana has the best location for us, all the right amenities and the highly trained workforce we need," said Gracia Martore, executive vice president and chief executive officer. "We are very pleased with the welcome this center received from the state and are happy to enhance our operations in Indiana."

The Indiana Economic Development Corporation will provide Gannett with up to $780,000 in performance-based tax credits and up to $155,000 in training grants based on the company's job creation plans.  Indianapolis will provide the company with property tax abatement at the request of Indianapolis Economic Development, Inc. and the Indy Partnership.

"This is a great announcement for all of Marion County. Gannett is a national leader in journalism and having this service center here is a testament to the great environment we've created and the great employees who live here," said Indianapolis Mayor Greg Ballard.

The announcement of Gannett's decision to site its national services center in Indianapolis comes less than a month after financial giant Charles Schwab & Co., Inc. announced its plans to grow its regional client service center in Indianapolis, creating up to 300 new jobs.
