Gun & Knife Shows and their Place in Muncie and Surrounding Area of East Central Indiana

Greg Shirley approached me this week about doing the Local Quarterly Gun & Knife Show...and I explained to Him and His wife, that in eleven (11) years of doing the show we never made any money at them...we came close to breaking even a couple times; but in the end never made a red nickle.

Well the Shows in general have fallen on some hard times...as much of America has in recent years, much of the manufacturing jobs seemed to employ many of the outdoors-men and their families.  Not that white collar / ties types are not outdoors-men, but it simply seems they don't engage in the same level of outdoor activities that require rifles, handguns, knives, and the such as the blue collar workers do /did.

Given the above, I counter offered Greg's offer with a Percent of "gross sales" hoping to maybe break even or make a buck or two as a result of taking stock out of the shop(s) and trying to afford someone else to do the show for us.  I am presently too ill and the wife hates to do shows in general after all the years of disappointing results.  I do still have several folks to fall back on at times such as these...experienced, and trustworthy and I can normally count on them to work on a commission basis as long as I pay for expenses such as fuel to and from Anderson, Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner and percent of the Gross Sales (starts getting dicey at this point) but I do beleive they could represent us well and still just maybe make a buck or two.

All this of course presupposes that there would be good to great attendance and that there are sufficent vendors willing to fork over funds for table space and willing to dicker / haggle over price of products with the show public from the surrounding area.

Now I looked in the Sunday Paper and sure enough there was NO Mention of a Gun & Knife Show this 11Th & 12Th of October 9-5 Sat -9-3 Sun?

What gives with that?  Well Greg assures me he sends out over 6000 postcards to past visitors and I am not sure how that competes with almost a hundered and twenty copies of the Sunday edition paper getting in to the hands of the public VS. the cost of printing and mailing the cards (to target market) but I am told by folks that are suppose to be "IN the Know" that Handguns and Rifles and Ammo sales are up.

So I am hoping by arranging to do this show and publishing this blog there would be enough folks who discover the is on and that Army Navy Surplus Of Muncie will be in vendor attendance, and will be open for business both at the show and at the shop both days Saturday 9-5 on the 11Th and Sunday 9-3 on the 12Th for the same hours as the show.  Any card sales such as Debit, Discover, Master or Visa will have to be handled in our shop....all Show sales will be cash & carry.

I plan to make a big showing at the Gun & Knife show, as to give it an honest try to make it worthwhile to come out and make the deals worthwhile showing up for.  No Holds back...we are meaning business, new, used, of course in the Sow N Sews Custom Sewing Shop, we will be making many new products as well as modifications and repairs to existing products.

This is an excellent way to gauge the reach of the Munice Free Press in all its venues.  I hope and believe to see as many folks from the ECI area as possible....See you at the Shop; or the Show!
