Morning Crash Injures Miami County Woman
PERU, IN - This morning at approximately 8:35 a.m., officers from the Indiana State Police responded to a single vehicle crash on U.S. 31 at County Road 300 North, which injured a Miami County woman.
Preliminary investigation by Master Trooper Randy Pryor revealed that a 1998 Jeep Wrangler driven by Chelsea I. Shaw, 20, Peru, IN, was traveling southbound on U.S. 31. As the Jeep was crossing a bridge at the Eel River, it spun on the slick road and struck a guardrail on the west side of U.S. 31 at County Road 300 North. The Jeep then flipped over the guardrail and rolled down an embankment, coming to rest on its top. Shaw was transported by ambulance to Dukes Memorial Hospital with a non-life threatening head injury.
“This was a high impact crash, stated Master Trooper Pryor.” “This crash could have very easily been a fatality if the driver was not properly secured with a seat belt. The seat belt definitely helped reduce the severity of her injuries”
Pryor was assisted at the crash scene by Master Trooper Earl McCullough, Master Trooper Ron Whitney, the Miami County Sheriff’s Department, the Mexico Fire Department, and Dukes EMS.
