Indiana Students Excel in Statewide Video Contest
INDIANAPOLIS, IN - In preparation for the digital TV transition, America Recycles Day Indiana (ARDI) challenged Indiana students to produce 30-second videos to help Hoosiers understand the importance of reusing, recycling, or converting analog televisions instead of putting them in the trash.
A partnership between the Indiana Recycling Coalition, Indiana Department of Education, Indiana Department of Environmental Management and Comcast, ARDI sponsored the contest and representatives presented certificates and cash awards to the victorious students and teachers, along with showing the winning video entries during a special ceremony held at the State Capitol in Indianapolis Friday.
"Electronics recycling is a major initiative of the Indiana Recycling Coalition, and we are pleased to partner with IDOE, IDEM and Comcast to further promote the importance of recycling televisions in advance of the digital transition," said Carey Hamilton, executive director, Indiana Recycling Coalition.
"These public service announcements achieved the goal of educating Hoosiers on how to make the shift to digital television in an environmentally-friendly way," said Thomas Easterly, IDEM commissioner. "Even though the shift to digital television has been temporarily postponed, it's important to focus on the need to recycle televisions instead of throwing them away."
