Muncie 4th of July of Photos, and some thoughts.
First off, I must apologize to a lot of nice people I met earlier today. It's a lot harder to take pictures (on a camera you don't know well enough) in different lighting conditions than I thought. Some of the pictures came out bad. Ok, more than some. Lots of over exposures and other zaniness with the camera. I promise to get better, though, or find and showcase the people who are. ;)
Also, while I'm apologizing, I missed getting Mayor Dan Canan's thoughts (and telling him in person about Muncie Free Press) by just a few minutes when I left to check out the Reservoir! Talk about bad timing and lack of foresight! Again, though, I'm new at this and want you to talk with me about what I can do better. Trying to help with this, I imagine I'll be posting a lot of my mistakes and goof-ups here. Live and learn, they say.
[editor's note, by kpaul] The complete photo gallery can be found here. While I don't think I gathered enough for an official story, I did get some reactions and thoughts.
As the photos process for your viewing pleasure (or displeasure), here are some quotes about the festivities just after the Muncie Central Fireworks display:
It was Aaron Carter's first time seeing the fireworks actually in the parking lot and the first time having to deal with the traffic. We shared a smile over that. He described it as an, "Awesome show."
Eric Tankersley had one word. "Fantastic."
"Pretty good. I enjoyed it." Chuck Brooks
Before the fireworks (just before) as I was walking around, stumbling with the digital camera, one of the gentleman wasn't happy with just the photo (his came out blurry, but in an artistic kind of way maybe...) He wanted me to write something down. So I did.
"This is for the troops, the country, the forgotten ones not around..." Dwayne Johnson.
Ok, I'm going to post this now, with a promise that the photos are on the way, the whole lot of them, except for a few maybe. Apologies for the blurry, over exposed, etc. ;)
There are 200 or so photos and I'm resizing them now. I'm also going to try to caption most of them. I really want an audio recorder as well, to share more of the experience with you.
In any case, thanks for talking with me today, Muncie. I enjoyed it. I'll edit this later with a link to the photos and set some of them into rotation on the 'homepage.'
(Little side note. If any of you find I become too technical in my language, let me know.)
