Indiana General Assembly honors Ball State University football team

INDIANAPOLIS, IN - The Indiana General Assembly honored Ball State University’s football team today for their undefeated 2008 season. The team went 12-0, marking the third undefeated regular season in Ball State’s 84-year history and setting a school record for most wins in a single season. House Concurrent Resolution 31 was sponsored in the Senate by State Senator Sue Errington (D-Muncie), who said it was a pleasure to recognize Coach Stan Parrish and team leaders for their accomplishments on the field and for the excitement that they brought to her home community.

“I’ve been associated with Ball State since 1970 and I cannot remember any time when the campus and city of Muncie were as excited as we were last fall with this team,” Errington told her colleagues in the Senate. “This team raised the spirit of the campus. The student attendance at home games went from 8,000 students in the stadium for first home game to 11,000 students in attendance at the last game..”

Present in the Senate to hear the resolution today were Ball State University Football Coach Stan Parrish, Director of Intercollegiate Athletics Tom Collins, Co-Team Captains Brandon Crawford and Dan Gerberry. The team leaders also brought Dante Love, a wide receiver who has recovered from a serious spinal injury incurred on the field during a game last fall.

The Cardinals also won the Mid-American Conference West Division and advanced to the MAC Championship Game in 2008.

The resolution was authored in the House of Representatives by Rep. Dennis Tyler (D-Muncie) and adopted by a voice vote in each chamber.
