Global Defense Company to Expand its Fort Wayne Operations
FORT WAYNE, IN - BAE Systems, a global developer of defense, security and aerospace systems, will expand its Fort Wayne operations by adding approximately 200 full-time positions over the next two years.
"We've created the best conditions for business growth in Indiana so companies like BAE Systems will continue to make positive impacts in our state. This expansion is welcome news during this challenging economic time," said Governor Mitch Daniels last week.
The BAE Systems site in Fort Wayne, which currently manufactures flight controls, engine controls, and cables for both commercial and military avionics and supports aftermarket repairs and spare equipment for end customers, plans to begin hiring additional engineers and operations employees at the end of March.
The Indiana Economic Development Corporation is providing BAE Systems up to $2.3 million in performance-based tax credits and up to $242,500 in training grants based on the company's job creation plans. The city of Fort Wayne will provide additional property tax abatement at the request of The Fort Wayne-Allen County Economic Development Alliance.
"This is a very positive situation for the city of Fort Wayne," said Mayor Tom Henry. "Even though there is economic uncertainty throughout the United States, BAE Systems' expansion in Fort Wayne is a testimony to the vitality and strength of our community."
The BAE Systems announcement of work transferring to Fort Wayne comes only five months after global moving giant SIRVA Inc. announced it would relocate its national headquarters operation to the city, creating 240 new jobs.
Indiana is home to a $4.6-billion defense contracting industry that employs thousands of Hoosiers across the state.
