Rep. Davis Honors Local Attorney

INDIANA STATEHOUSE - Rep. Bill Davis (R-Portland) joined the House of Representatives today in honoring John Tanner for his 41 years of service as a county attorney in Randolph County.

“John Tanner is the longest serving county attorney in Indiana history. In this position, he has earned the love and respect of his colleagues who describe his legal advice as invaluable and his experience as unparalleled.”

After graduating from McKinley High School in Winchester, Tanner enlisted in the Navy. He graduated in 1952 as an x-ray technician from the U.S. Hospital Corps before receiving a Bachelor’s Degree from Ball State University in 1957.

In 1963, Tanner was admitted to the Indiana State Bar Association and joined his father’s family firm of Tanner & Tanner. Despite his numerous accomplishments, Tanner remained a practicing partner at the firm. Tanner was then promoted to Randolph County attorney in 1967, where he has served for the past 41 years.

“He is a good natured public servant who most enjoys dealing with local people in the practice of law,” said Davis. “By getting along with a wide variety of people no matter their politics, John has advised county officials and solved difficult problems in a fair and efficient manner.”
