Operation Spring Cleaning Results in Seven Arrests

PERU, IN - On April 20, 2009, a two month long drug investigation dubbed “Operation Spring Cleaning” by Indiana State Police Trooper Josh Maller and Miami County Sheriff Sergeant Mike Rogers has resulted in the arrests of seven Peru, IN residents to face 23 drug related charges.

The joint investigation by the Indiana State Police, the Miami County Sheriff’s Office, and the Peru Police Department Drug Task Force led to Miami Superior Court II arrest warrants being issued for Cory Reed, 22, Tobias Reed, 44, Randy McCoy, 52, and a Howard Superior Court I arrest warrant for Jay Cardwell, 49. All four men reside in Peru, IN.  All four were charged with a class C misdemeanor for purchasing more than three grams of a precursor in a week.

Officers located Cardwell and McCoy at a home on the property of the Indian Trails Campground at 1812 N. State Road 19, Peru, IN. Officers developed probable cause and obtained a search warrant for McCoy’s home on the camp ground property. Officers allegedly found a shotgun, a rifle, marijuana, and drug paraphernalia. In addition to drug charges, McCoy will face a class B felony for possession of a firearm by a serious violent felon. While at the campground, officers also searched a residence occupied by Ashley J. Moorman, 20, and Jimmy Sheets, 31. The search allegedly revealed marijuana and drug paraphernalia. Both were taken into custody to face charges for possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, and maintaining a common nuisance.

As officers continued their investigation, they located Tobias Reed, 44, at his residence on 3246 Wallick Road, Peru, IN.  They were able to obtain a search warrant for his home. During their search, officers purportedly found methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia. Tobias Reed will face additional charges for possession of methamphetamine, maintaining a common nuisance, and possession of drug paraphernalia. Deidre Reed, 45, Tobias’s wife, will also face charges for possession of methamphetamine, maintaining a common nuisance, and possession of drug paraphernalia. Cory Reed was served his arrest warrant at his home on 383 West 12th Street Peru, IN. He was taken into custody without incident.
