INDOT Announces State Road 67 in Knox and Greene Counties to Receive Improvements

Roadway to be resurfaced, three bridges to be replaced

VINCENNES, Ind. -- The Indiana Department of Transportation is announcing that construction will soon begin on State Road 67 (S.R. 67) in Knox and Greene counties.  Construction will be between State Road 59 (S.R. 59) in Sandborn and State Road 54 (S.R. 54) in Switz City.

This project will include three bridge replacements and the resurfacing of S.R. 67.  Dave O'Mara Contractor of North Vernon, Indiana, was awarded the $3.4 million contract during the March 2009 letting.

The bridges to be replacements include a structure over Hill Ditch, 0.85 mile north of S.R. 59; a structure over Four Mile Ditch, 3.18 miles south of S.R. 54; and a structure over a tributary of Four Mile Ditch, 2.83 miles south of S.R. 54.

Contractor's crews will focus on replacing the Hill Ditch structure just north of Sandborn.  Traffic will be restricted to one lane during the replacement of this structure.  A temporary traffic signal will be used to move traffic through the area.  Work is estimated to begin at this site on or after May 26.

Once work is complete on the structure near Sandborn, crews will then begin replacing the two Four Mile Ditch structures near Lyons.  Traffic will be restricted to one lane during the replacement of these structures.  A temporary traffic signal will be used to move traffic through the area.

The asphalt paving operation will take place alongside the bridge work.  Flag persons will be used to control traffic while crews are milling and paving the roadway.  As an added safety measure, an 11 foot width restriction will be in place for the entire stretch of roadway while this project is under construction.  This project is currently scheduled to be complete November 2009.

The work schedule is subject to change in the event of inclement weather. INDOT reminds motorists to use caution and consider worker safety when driving through a construction zone. For the latest news and information about INDOT, please visit www.in.gov/indot.
