Muncie Animal Shelter to Stop Trapping and Removal of Wildlife in City
MUNCIE, IN - "Effective immediately, the Muncie Animal Shelter will no longer provide trapping and removal of wildlife, such as
raccoons, possums, skunks, etc. in the city," Ron White, superintendent of the shelter, announced Tuesday.
"Because of the shortfall in City revenues," White said, "the Animal Shelter must cut its costs. We will no longer send staff to homes with a trap and then retrieve the captured animal for disposal. We will refer any callers with wildlife problems to local businesses that provide these services."
The Animal Shelter staff will be retrieving any traps in place now and refunding the $50 deposits.
White said he expects additional Animal Shelter service cuts by June 1 as part of the City's continuing efforts to trim $3.8 million from this year's budget due to property tax revenue shortfalls.
