One of the World’s oldest Race Cars Available to the Public
AUBURN, IN - It is a rare event that truly unique automobiles change owners. The opportunity for a collector to purchase one of the world’s oldest race cars does not present itself often. That opportunity will be available though at the 18th Annual Auburn Spring Motorfair Auction in Auburn, Ind. which takes place May 28th through the 31st.
The rare 1904 Thomas Flyer race car is one of the oldest race cars in the world. The company that produced them, Thomas Motor Company in Buffalo, New York, operated from 1902 to 1919. They specialized in impeccable craftsmanship, detail and design. In 1904 the Thomas Company produced 400 40 HP Flyers. In addition to the 400 40 HP, a 60 HP,6 cylinder, 12.3 liter, 750 cubic inch engine was designed and built specifically for the 1904 Vanderbilt Cup.
The particular 1904 Thomas Flyer that will be auctioned at the Auburn Spring Motorfair is one of the rare 60 HP ones. Research on these cars shows that unlike Hemi Cudas and Mustangs a 60 HP Thomas Flyer crossing the auction block is a rare event.
“It is worth the trip to Auburn just to see the engine,” said chief auctioneer and car enthusiast Dean V. Kruse.
This vehicle is also eligible for the London to Brighton run which only allows cars produced before 1905 in.
