IDEM staff use pedal power on Bike to Work day

INDIANAPOLIS, IN - Staff from the Indiana Department of Environmental Management will be parking their cars and hopping on their bicycles to join other state agencies and businesses during annual bike to work day, a day set aside to increase awareness of bike riding as an alternative means of transportation.

"We want to draw attention to other ways to get to work other than driving personal vehicles," said IDEM Commissioner Thomas Easterly. "Riding a bike can be a healthy and safe way to get to work and run other errands."

Bicyclists can participate in commuter rides led by experienced cyclists from the Indianapolis community from 11 different locations around the greater Indianapolis metropolitan area, beginning at 6:30 a.m. and arriving at Monument Circle no later than 8 a.m. Riders will enjoy free bike parking, breakfast, giveaways and information about bicycling and regular commuting. For starting locations, visit www.bicycleindiana.org.

Air quality in Indiana has improved in recent years as a result of new regulations and voluntary efforts to reduce emissions. Through simple actions at home and at work, Hoosiers can continue to contribute to cleaner air.
