INDIANAPOLIS, IN – Her best-selling book was turned into an insightful Hollywood movie about teen life, and now Rosalind Wiseman is leading a free Webinar to help Indiana youth workers, youth ministers, teachers and counselors learn strategies for working with parents whose behavior crosses the line in aggressive or reactive ways.
The Indiana Youth Institute (IYI) is offering the Webinar, Surviving the Hive: Sanely and Successfully Interacting with the Adults in Your Students' Lives, Wednesday, June 3 from 10-11:30 a.m. EDT. Participants may either access the real-time Web-based presentation or listen only to the audio portion of the program. There is no cost to take part; however, pre-registration is required. Wiseman is an internationally recognized expert on children, teens, parenting, bullying, social justice and ethical leadership. She authored the New York Times bestseller "Queen Bees and Wannabes: Helping Your Daughter Survive Cliques, Gossip, Boyfriends, and Other Realities of Adolescence," which was the basis for the movie, "Mean Girls." Her follow-up book, "Queen Bee Moms and Kingpin Dads," was released in 2006.
Young people aren't the only ones who can behave in unethical, anxious or reactive ways. Drawing from her latest book, "Queen Bee Moms & Kingpin Dads," Rosalind Wiseman shows how parents and other adults become involved in kids' conflicts for better or worse. In this Webinar, youth workers will learn concrete strategies to improve their relationships with everyone in the lives of the children they work with—from parents to teachers, coaches and principals.
Among the objectives of the Webinar are:
- · How to create effective partnerships with parents
- · How to manage your own personal responses to anxious or angry parents, and
- · How to apply the strategies you are being presented with to concrete, real scenarios in your life.
Wiseman also is a monthly columnist for Family Circle magazine, and more information about her is available at www.rosalindwiseman.com.
The Indiana Youth Institute promotes the healthy development of children and youth by serving the institutions and people of Indiana who work on their behalf.
