'Generation Gap' to Perform at Slamology

INDIANAPOLIS, IN - Generation Gap will be performing Saturday, June at the Marion County Fairgrounds in Indianapolis during the Slamology Music Festival. The Father’s Day Weekend performance is sure to be a special one for the group, who is a team of fathers and sons.

Travis Burton, guitarist, started learning to play shortly after his 12-year-old son Culley started, as they wanted to learn and play together. Culley has been playing bass since he was 6-years-old. Culley started asking to learn to play an instrument at 3-years-old, but demanded it just after his 6th birthday. He chose bass and has been cranking out the rhythm ever since.

He has performed since he was 6-years-old through other bands, notably Benito DiBartoli and the Black Voodoo Band, JB DeVille, and Governor Davis and the Blues Ambassadors. He even played the 2004 Indy Jazz Fest with Benito. Culley has been performing consistently with Generation Gap since he was 8-years-old.

Jeff Corlew, lead singer, began with the band as a sound manager. Corlew took over duties as lead singer recently and his son, 15-year-old Ryan Corlew rounds out the band as drummer. Ryan has been playing drums since he was 5-years-old. Ryan has also learned to play guitar.

The band started in March of 2004. Culley and Burton had been doing some jamming with Benito DiBartoli and the Black Voodoo Band and met drummer Steve Prince (Dane Clark Band) who was teaching Ryan at the time. Steve introduced Culley and Burton to Ryan and they started jamming together a bit.

Burton called on college roommate, Jamey, to come in and try out the lead vocal spot. The band has been working together ever since and has played at clubs in Indianapolis, Greenwood, Greenfield, and Fishers, as well as playing weddings, private parties, and fund raising events. In the fall of 2006, Jamey left the band due to family obligations.

Corlew was asked to fill the void. Jeff had been running sound for the band and had jumped in several times to sing with the band at private parties.

Slamology is proud to welcome Generation Gap back this year to be part of the festivities. The band is scheduled to perform at 11 a.m. on Saturday, June 20.
