Peru Couple Arrested on 11 Felony Charges
PERU, IN - On August 11, 2009, a month long criminal investigation by Indiana State Police Detective Mike Tarrh and Detective Bob Burgess resulted in the arrest of Brandon Walker, 27, and his wife, Rachel Daily-Walker, 31, both of Peru, IN, to face a total of 11 felony charges. The arrests are a result of an investigation into the theft of numerous credit cards, checks, and identifications stolen from several vehicles in Cass, Howard, Marion, Miami, and Wabash Counties.
During the investigation, detectives were able to obtain video recordings from surveillance cameras, as the couple allegedly used stolen credit cards and checks at various retailers. The recordings were distributed to local law enforcement agencies. Miami County Sheriff’s Deputy Stephanie Coppler and Deputy Ron Dausch were able to identify the Walkers as possible suspects. Detective Burgess and Detective Tarrh developed probable cause for a Miami Circuit Court search warrant to be issued for the Walkers residence.
Last night, officers from the Indiana State Police and Miami County Sheriff’s Office executed the warrant at the couples residence located in the Hill Top Farms Apartment Complex in Peru, IN. They purportedly found a stolen handgun, numerous victim identifications, credit cards, checks, and other evidence linking the Walkers to the theft of items from several vehicles in five different counties. Brandon Walker also allegedly had prescription pills, without a valid prescription, on his person when searched by officers.
Brandon Walker was arrested on three counts of class C felony possession of a controlled substance. He also faces three class D felony counts of credit card fraud and two class D felony charges for possession of stolen property. Rachel Daily-Walker faces two counts of class D felony possession of stolen property and one class D felony charge of credit card fraud. They are both incarcerated in the Miami County Jail. Brandon’s bond is set at $40,000 and Rachel’s bond is $20,000.
Detective Burgess and Detective Tarrh were assisted in the investigation by ISP Sergeant Jeremy Kelly, Miami County Sheriff’s Sergeant Detective Mike Rogers, and Miami County Prosecutor Eric Huneryager.
