Woman Injured After Car Strikes House
GREENTOWN, IN - On August 14, 2009, at approximately 6:50 a.m., officers from the Indiana State Police and Howard County Sheriff’s Department responded to a single vehicle crash at 1756 North County Road 500 East, which injured a Russiaville, IN, woman.
Preliminary investigation by Senior Trooper Lee Williams revealed that Kristy N. Smith was driving a 2008 Pontiac G6 southbound on State Road 19, south of County Road 200 North. Smith lost control of the Pontiac and traveled off the eastside of the road. The car then traveled through a yard and struck the porch steps of a single story home at 1756 North County Road 500 East. Smith indicated she was trying to avoid striking an animal which had entered the roadway in front of her vehicle.
Smith fractured her right femur. She was transported by ambulance to Howard Community Hospital in Kokomo, IN. She was later transferred to Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis, IN. No one was injured inside the residence.
The home suffered minor damage. Smith was properly restrained with a seat belt and the vehicles air bags deployed, which helped reduce the severity of her injuries.
Senior Trooper Williams was assisted at the crash scene by Master Trooper Bob Good, the Howard County Sheriff’s Department, St. Joseph’s Hospital EMS, and the Greentown Fire Department.
