Five Children Receive Minor Injuries in School Bus Hit and Run

INDIANAPOLIS, IN -  Today, at approximately 8:17 a.m., Indiana State Police responded to a reported hit and run crash involving a school bus on I-70 westbound near the 84 mile-marker which injured five children. 

Preliminary investigation revealed Alisse R. Stamps, 53, Indianapolis, IN, was driving a yellow 2002 Thomas School Bus westbound on I-70 near the 84 mile-marker in the right lane and was preparing to exit onto northbound I-65.  A red unknown make and model pickup truck was traveling westbound in the second lane next to the school bus when for an unknown reason swerved to the right and made contact with the school bus on the driver’s side rear tires. 

The school bus swerved hard to the right shoulder, causing the passengers, five children, to be thrown about inside the bus.  The bus came to a stop on the right shoulder and the red pickup continued westbound on I-70.  It is unknown if the red truck went north or south on I-65.  Injuries which resulted from this crash were complaint of pain only with no serious or life-threatening injuries.   

The school bus, which is owned and operated by First Student, was transporting the children from I.P.S. school number 107 to the Julian Center here in Indianapolis.   

INJURIED AND TRANPORTED: 

  1. Jaylen Williams, age 8:  Transported to Methodist by parent for complaint of pain.
  2. Anthony Payne, age 7:  Transported to Methodist by ambulance for complaint of pain.
  3. Breana Payne, age 6:  Transported to Methodist by ambulance for complaint of pain.
  4. Jada Payne, age 9:  Transported to Methodist by ambulance for complaint of pain.
  5. Michael Payne, age 10:  Transported to Methodist by ambulance for complaint of pain.
