Tajci'a "Emmanuel" Coming to St. Mary Catholic Church
Singer/songwriter Tajci Performs a Musical Journey that’s Steeped in Mystery and Resonating with Emotion
MUNCIE, IN - On Saturday, November 28, 2009 at 7pm, singer/songwriter Tajci (Tai-Chee) will perform “Emmanuel – The Story of Christ” at St Mary Catholic Church, 2300 W Jackson St, Muncie, IN. The event features Tajci on keyboards, backed by electronic instrumentalist Denny Bouchard and cellist Larissa Fedoryka.
Since the spring of 2000, Tajci has shared her emotional programs in over 600 concerts building a nationwide following for the artist who, as a teenager, was a pop music superstar in Communist Central Europe. Known then as Tajci, she abandoned her fame at age 21 and fled to the United States, where she eventually began performing in churches across America.
“People are hungry to be fed spiritually and this is a great way to do it, through this woman’s music,” says Reverend John Skehan of St Christopher’s Church in York, ME, where Tajci performed last spring. 17 year old Andrew Brown of Hampden, ME was in that audience. “She was absolutely amazing and the experience was powerful.”
This concert event is a true celebration of Christmas—with laughter, joy, sorrow, hope, tears, family…and faith.
Musically, Tajci draws from an almost unbelievable range of influences, not just from across the globe, but from across the centuries of human history. In “Emmanuel-the Story of Christmas”, Tajci takes her audience on a musical sleigh ride that conjures images that vary from a vast gothic cathedral for a Gregorian chant, to a trip to the local mall where a young woman searches for the true spirit of Christmas among the chores of the busy season. Using one of the most beautiful voices on the planet to carry us from the whispered introspection of “Breath of Heaven” to the soaring heights of her own “Magnificat”, and to the achingly—soulful performance of her show-stopping rendition of “Silent Night”, she takes us from the steps of her childhood schoolhouse in communist Yugoslavia to the back streets of the Bethlehem of old.
It is obvious from the opening notes that these very original arrangements have been painstakingly honed to produce what is a near magical effect on the listener.
This is not a typical Christmas Concert. For Tajci, the Christmas experience is steeped in mystery and resonates with emotion.
For someone of faith, the season of Christmas is a path to the very origins of their beliefs. Experiencing this concert is a wonderful way to embark on that journey.
