State Police Make Drug Money Seizure
INDIANAPOLIS, IN - An alert Indiana State Police Motor Carrier Inspector (MCI) discovered a large sum of drug money being transported in a commercial vehicle. The MCI, who is assigned to the Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Division (CVED) of the Indiana State Police, was working along I-70 in Wayne County.
At 1:15pm on Tuesday, November 17, 2009, MCI Anthony Alexander stopped a commercial vehicle traveling west on I-70 near the 134 mile marker to perform a standard truck inspection. While interviewing the driver to complete the inspection, MCI Alexander became suspicious with some of the answers being given. Employing the training he has received, MCI Alexander contacted Connersville post for a K-9 unit.
Trooper Shane Stevens and his K-9 partner, Jax, arrived at the scene. Jax alerted on the driver’s side of the tractor during his walk around. A more thorough search was conducted by the units at the scene. During this search a small amount of narcotics was discovered along with a duffel bag containing a large sum of money.
The driver was placed out of service and lodged in the Wayne County jail on drug possession charges. The investigation has been turned over to the Indiana State Police Drug Enforcement Section.
This is the second large seizure from a commercial motor vehicle MCI Alexander has been involved with. Last month he conducted an inspection which led to the seizure of over $250,000.
