Italian Firm Seeks Business in Kokomo
Mayor Goodnight’s trip to Italy led to local meeting
KOKOMO, IN - The Italian firm OMPeco seeks to introduce into the U.S. market its patented, environmentally friendly method for treating biohazard waste. This led to a recent meeting between representatives of two Kokomo hospitals and Bell Technologies to learn more about the waste converter program.
Bell Technologies has purchased the exclusive rights to sell OMPeco built biohazard waste converters within the U.S.
Kokomo Mayor Greg Goodnight and Chad Pittman, Vice President of the Indiana Economic Development Corporation established a relationship with the Italian firm during their summer meeting in Turin, Italy with Fiat executives. After touring OMPeco’s engineering facility, Goodnight and Pittman were impressed with the cutting edge technology which renders biohazard waste into a sterile, dry byproduct free from sharp objects and safe for disposal.
“Their converters don’t generate contaminated waste water or release any gases or toxins into the air. It just seemed like a technological solution for keeping biohazard waste out of the environment in a much more affordable manner for our health care facilities,” Goodnight said.
By advancing technologies for local businesses that save money and protect the environment, Mayor Goodnight, hopes to encourage others to explore green initiatives.
OMPeco’s converters are designed for the treatment and sterilization of pathogenic-hazardous waste. Their unique process enables full sterilization of biohazard waste regardless of microbial concentration or nature of the biohazard material.
At this time their waste converters are used in Europe and China and the first unit for the U.S. is being built for Texas health care facility.
