Two Wabash County Men Arrested on Heroin Charge
MIAMI COUNTY, IN - Last night, at approximately 11:20 p.m., Indiana State Trooper Mike Meiser stopped a 1998 Ford pickup truck for allegedly traveling on U.S. 31 at County Road 1550 North with a headlight out. A license check revealed the driver, Matthew Hayslip, 23, Wabash, IN, was driving while have a suspended license. Further investigation revealed a passenger, Michael Moore, 40, Lafontaine, IN, was wanted on a criminal warrant for domestic violence issued in Howard County.
Fulton County Sheriff’s Deputy Travis Heishman, and his narcotics detecting police dog Bojar, arrived to assist. As Bojar walked around the exterior of the Ford, he indicated the possible presence of illegal narcotics in the truck. A subsequent search of the interior purportedly revealed 63 tin foil packages containing suspected heroin. Officers also allegedly found drug paraphernalia.
Hayslip and Moore were taken into custody to face a felony charge for possession of a scheduled I narcotic. They are incarcerated in the Miami County Jail with a bond of $5,000 each.
Officers suspect the heroin was purchased in Chicago, IL, to be resold in Wabash, IN. The drugs have a street value of approximately $2,500.
Trooper Meiser was assisted in this investigation by ISP First Sergeant Bob Land, Trooper Luke Bowyer, and Fulton County Sheriff’s Deputy Larry Jolley.
