IDEM encourages Hoosiers to think outside the "gift" box
INDIANAPOLIS, IN - The Indiana Department of Environmental Management (IDEM) is encouraging Hoosiers to think outside the proverbial "gift" box when considering what to give friends, loved ones and the earth this holiday season.
"Gifting environmentally-friendly items is a good way to show family, friends and the earth that you care," said IDEM Commissioner Thomas Easterly. "These type of gifts provide joy long after the holidays are over."
Donation to a charity in a loved one's name is an example of a unique, yet earth-friendly gift. There are hundreds of organizations that compliment the recipient's interests, such as a local animal shelter on behalf of an animal lover, or a membership to a botanical garden, art museum or musical society can please the creative types on your gift list.
Offering to provide a night of free babysitting, helping a new mother or senior citizen around the house or taking a special someone on an adventure are also thoughtful gifts that can be easy on the pocketbook and the environment.
