Join the Quest to Go Green at Muncie Children's Museum

MUNCIE, IN - Explore Conservation Quest SM on Exhibit at the Muncie Children's Museum from January 22 – May 16, 2010!  Loaded with hands-on activities, Conservation Quest delivers important energy conservation messages, inspiring to make thoughtful choices about energy use to help protect the planet and promote healthy living. 

Learn about energy – what it is, where it comes from, how it’s used and why it’s so important to use it wisely.  Conservation Quest topics include: energy sources, energy use at home and around the world, climate change, environmental health, stewardship, conservation and the future of energy.

• Find ways to save with light bulbs, electricity and recycling

 

• Explore solar, wind and hydropower

 

• Connect circuits to power up lights, radios and fans

 

• See how much electricity your family uses compared to others

 

• Learn about climate change and greenhouse gases

• Learn about food miles and how far food travels to get to you

      • Take the green challenge – a computer interactive that prompts kids to make green choices

“I am very excited about the arrival of Conservation Quest! It is an honor to host an exhibit that is so culturally relevant. If we can educate children about conservation and recycling at an early age, maybe we can make lasting impressions that will affect the choices they make for the rest of their lives,” Exhibits and Education Director Robert Abner said.

 

Special Feature – Green Design

 

Conservation Quest was designed and produced using environmentally friendly materials and practices.

 

Green design signs call out sustainable features throughout the exhibit.

 

• Eco-friendly graphics (banners, board, wallpaper, canvas and aluminum)

      • Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) certified wood and water-based stains and sealants

• Fiber drums for cabinetry

 

• Eco-resin used instead of Plexiglas

 

• No plastic laminates

 

• Marmoleum

 

• ENERGY STAR® electronics

Conservation Quest was developed by Stepping Stones Museum for Children with major funding from The Foster Family Fund, Connecticut Energy Efficiency Fund, Northeast Utilities Foundation, Evolution Markets Inc., New York Mercantile Exchange and Newman’s Own Foundation.
