Nugent Installed to NRA's Board of Directors
INDIANA STATEHOUSE - State Sen. Johnny Nugent (R-Lawrenceburg) was re-installed to the National Rifle Association's (NRA) board of directors during this week's national conference in Charlotte, N.C. Nugent will serve a second term on the board following a recent nationwide vote by members of the gun rights organization.
"Defending the rights of law-abiding gun owners and finding ways to improve legislation will continue to be my focus," Nugent said. "I'm honored and humbled by this vote of confidence NRA members have given me."
According to NRA official Edward Land, Nugent was re-elected by eligible voting members for a three-year term, which runs through 2013.
Nugent remains a champion of Second Amendment rights as he was the lead sponsor in the Senate this year for House Enrolled Act 1065 - a measure to allow employees to store legal firearms in their locked vehicles out of sight and to let citizens possess firearms during a state of emergency. Gov. Mitch Daniels signed the measure into law on March 18.
Most notably, in 2006 Nugent authored the self-defense "Castle Doctrine" law and made Indiana the first state in the nation to offer a lifetime concealed carry permit.
Established in 1871, the NRA is a non-profit organization that advocates marksmanship, firearms safety and the protection of hunting and personal protection firearm rights in the United States.
