U.S. 35 Closure Extended Through End of June

Recent Rains Delayed Dirt Work and Road Base Construction

LAPORTE, Ind. - The Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) announces the U.S. 35 closure at the intersection of Schultz Road has been extended through the end of June.  The recent rains delayed the dirt work necessary to construct the road base as part of the sight distance improvement.

Crews are working to reconstruction the roadway at the intersection to open it to traffic as quickly and safely as possible.  Once the work is complete, the sight distance and overall safety of the intersection of U.S. 35 and Schultz Road will be improved.  Approximately nine feet has been removed at the crest of the intersection.  U.S. 35 between U.S. 20 and Johnson Road were repaved last fall as part of this project.

The roadway is closed approximately 500 feet north and south of the Schultz Rd. intersection.  Local traffic can access U.S. 35 on either side of the closure. Access to all residences within the construction limits will be maintained at all times during the closure.  No traffic will be allowed to drive through the construction zone and traffic is detoured via a marked route approximately 7 miles in length.  Northbound traffic will be directed to take State Road 39 (S.R. 39) north to U.S. 20 west back to S.R. 35.  Southbound traffic will be directed to take U.S. 20 east to S.R. 39 south back to U.S. 35.

INDOT reminds motorists to use caution and consider worker safety when driving through a construction zone. For the latest news and information about INDOT, please visit www.in.gov/indot or http://www.trafficwise.in.gov/.
