465/69 Northeast Bridges Open Ahead of Schedule

River Road, Westfield Boulevard Crossings Allow More Lanes of I-465 to Travel Below

INDIANAPOLIS - Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) contractors opened the new North River Road and Westfield Boulevard bridges over I-465 ahead of schedule on Friday, May 28.  The two bridges were demolished and rebuilt in a little over four months as part of 465/69 Northeast interstate upgrades.

The new bridge allows more lanes of a revitalized I-465 to travel below.  Although the bridges are now open to traffic, construction is not complete. Motorists should stay alert for periodic daytime lane and shoulder closures as contractors apply metal railings and masonry coating to the finished product.

Milestone Contractors of Columbus is widening and rebuilding about four miles of I-465, including six bridges, under a $72.8 million Major Moves contract.  Both directions of I-465 will encounter narrow lanes and shoulders through the work zone through late this year, when the project is scheduled to open to traffic.

Gov. Mitch Daniels' Major Moves highway program capitalizes on Indiana's strategic location at the Crossroads of America by building a superior road infrastructure. This innovative plan will bring jobs to the Hoosier State and leave a legacy for Indiana to be a global leader in distribution and logistics.
