Indians recall INF Matt LaPorta from AAA Columbus
CLEVELAND, OH - Over the weekend, the Cleveland Indians announced they have recalled INF Matt LaPorta from AAA Columbus. LaPorta fills the roster spot of INF Russell Branyan who was traded to the Seattle Mariners following last night's contest.
This will mark LaPorta's second stint with the Indians after making the opening day roster. He was optioned to AAA Columbus on June 7th and hit .362 (25-69) with 7 runs scored, 4 doubles, 5HR and 16RBI in 18 games with the Clippers.
LaPorta hit safely in 14 of the 18 games and had a .457 on-base percentage and a .638 slugging percentage (1.094 OPS) while with the Clippers. Earlier this year with the Indians he batted .218 (26-119) with 13 runs scored, 4 doubles, a home run and 7RBI in 35 games. He wears #7.
The Indians 25-man roster now stands at 25 and the 40-man roster is at 40.
