Will work for food? Where are all those signs we used to see?

It was not all that long ago, that I used to see a lot of the cities street corners with someone holding a sign reading "will work for food" and it seems,. that it is not as prevalent as it once was.  It take this as a good sign, that those who do qualify for food stamps are indeed getting them for themselves and their families in good turn while looking for gainful employment.

At the same time, I am aware that many are using barter and trade to do the same thing, because they don't want to hassle with the government red tape, or just gave up, on full time employment and are making barter and trade and some cash enumeration a new way of life.  Many are now doing both to some degree, legally as they look for some kind of work, but do whatever day job work can be secured and the food stamps program fills in the gaps.

Either way you look at it, work for food takes on new forms all the time.
