Do you possess 21st Century Work Skills? Check it out!

I had been wondering, just what it is going to take to find jobs in this 21st Century Work Environment?  Well this article just about jumped off the screen as I started to read it a bit more in depth; and it struck me that much of what is being sought is being taught by Military Schools, Experienced in the Military, and that this kind of searching for such talent, should put Military at the forefront of good jobs.

The article says their looking for workers who have high degrees of Self-Reliance, some healthy Curiosity, good Analytical mind, has or can develop an appropriate Broad Vision, can demonstrate Tacit Skills, good Skill Combos, and great Agility . . . it sure sounds like the better side of Officer and Senior NCO training to me.

In fact anyone in the Military who reaches the rank of E-5 or higher will have received much of this type of training.  It would be a better thing if the Military would do a better job of help those getting out to match up their training in a more specific way to help Vets find better jobs that would more directly reflect their training and experience.

For some time now, I have thought that Temp Jobs were to prevalent; and now it looks like those kinds of jobs will be increasing.  So, I can see where Agility will come into play; being able to change work environments well will become more important.

Its a No-Brainer to understand that Skill-Combos are now in high demand . . . The days of being "Highly Specialized" may have come to an end, or nearly so.

Tacit Skills are normally considered very intangible qualities, and could be one of the hardest things to verify; unless of course you have a letter of recommendation, that show how you developed and consistently effectively used such skills.

And what is it about a Broad Vision?  Being willing to think outside the box or your safe zone and seeing how the same skill sets could apply in a different field may be just thing a company is looking for these days.

And Analytics . . . may be more important then ever before in seeing the big picture and knowing how things interact, react, and could be improved . . . So maybe it is time to speak up and let your ideas be heard?

Even though it is said that Curiosity killed the cat; that does not have to apply to Inquiring Minds want to know?  Know more about a  job and applying a matching skill combo set, together with that analytical mind?  May just be what the company needs.

No one loves a ball hog, or wants to be an also member of a team or department; but being self-reliant enough so as to not to be carried, or covered for by associates is a big plus.

The bottom line here is you may want to look into one of the budding entrepreneurial programs now being offered at many schools.  And check out that article and related articles about developing and verifying such skills on your Resume . . . both written and electronic.
