I-70 Closures Weeknights At S.R. 9 Bridge

GREENFIELD, IN -The Indiana Department of Transportation will again close Interstate 70 lanes during overnight hours to allow placement of construction equipment beneath the State Road 9 bridge which is being rebuilt.  Traffic will be restricted Monday through Friday between the hours of 9 p.m. and 6 a.m.

  • Monday night: I-70 eastbound lanes will be closed as workers remove girders and pier cap; traffic will detour up exit ramp, cross S.R. 9 and return to I-70 via the entry ramp.
  • Tuesday night: I-70 eastbound lanes will be closed for debris removal; traffic will use exit and entry ramps to detour around the closure.
  • Wednesday night: I-70 westbound lanes will be closed for debris removal; traffic will use exit and entry ramps to detour around the closure.
  • Thursday night: I-70 westbound lanes will be closed allowing crews to place falsework; traffic will use exit and entry ramps to detour around the closure.
  • Friday night: I-70 eastbound lanes will be closed to remove debris; traffic will use exit and entry ramps to detour around the closure.

The Indiana State Police be on site to oversee traffic control activities.

Schutt-Lookabill, the state's contractor, is replacing the S.R. 9 bridge superstructure to accommodate a wider roadbed.  Ten-foot shoulders are being added to both sides of the bridge deck.  An additional 12-foot northbound lane is being built.  And the on-ramp to westbound I-70 will be expanded to handle two lanes of traffic.

Contract completion date for the $3.3 million bridge project is October 31, 2010.
