Dogs' Day of Summer at Pokagon State Park, Aug. 28

Pokagon State Park will go to the dogs on Saturday, Aug. 28, beginning at 3 p.m., at the park's campground amphitheater.

Campers and dog owners from the general public are encouraged to bring their four-legged, furry best friends to compete in the Pokagon Dog Idol contests. Dogs will be recognized in the following categories: biggest, smallest, best dressed, cutest and most unusual. There also will be dog-and-owner look-alike contests.

Six exciting prize packages have been provided by Pawsitively Paradise Pet Resort of Angola. The audience, with the help of Smokey Bear, will judge.

After the contest, there will be a Pokagon Dog Parade through the campgrounds and back to the amphitheater.

Participants not camping at Pokagon may park at the campers' store and walk back to the amphitheater and should allow time for a 10-minute walk to the site.

Although the program is free and open to all, the normal park entrance fee of $5 for in-state vehicles or $7 for out-of-state vehicles will be charged, or you can use your annual entrance pass. Both are available at the park front gate. For further information, call the park at (260) 833-2012.
