Day of Rage NYC Protests Continue, Mainstream Media Takes Notice

Media Begins to Take Notice of Thousands in Downtown New York Protesting on September 17 - the Day of Rage

NEW YORK, NY - Reports of hundreds to thousands of people (depending on who you blieve) have taken to the public streets of New York City to celebrate Constitution Day by assembling peacefully. While the mainstream media has treated it as a non-event for the most part, mentions  of #sep17 #usdor and #occupywallstreet have been trending online for a couple days. From Google Trends to Twitter Trends, people around the country - and around the world - are talking about events currently taking place.

Media outlets like CBS, Fox and others are starting to come around and report on the news that has been happening all day.

FOX New York is reporting that NYPD Deputy Commissioner Paul Browne said the NYPD was prepared for the protesters and a protest area had been established on Broad Street at Exchange Place next to the Stock Exchange.

"None associated with the demonstrations sought permits," Browne said. "A group that formed at the bull at Bowling Green spilled into the streets on each side of the bull, posed safety issues and impeded vehicular traffic. The streets were re-opened to vehicular traffic and barriers were subsequently erected at the bull to prevent a re-occurance.”

Today's Day of Rage protest was arranged by activist magazine Adbusters who put the call out two months ago for participants in a September 17 peaceful and non-violent demonstration in lower Manhattan.

Organizers of the event have stressed the mass protest will be nonviolent in nature. The Day of Rage Twitter account recently tweeted,
"We'll change the name US Day of Rage, which IS NONVIOLENT, when Pentagon changes name of Operation Enduring Freedom, which IS VIOLENT

One citizen. One dollar. One vote.

The website for the movement sums up their demands.

“Unfortunately, free and fair elections are a thing of the past in America. Because of recent Supreme Court decisions, money is flowing freely and unaccountably into the American electoral process. Elections will be swayed by interests opposed to those of the United States. Corporations, even those owned by foreign shareholders, will and do use money to act as the voices of millions, while individual citizens, the legitimate voters, are silenced and demoralized by the farce of American Democracy.”
