Signs, Signs, Everywhere There's Signs

I've noticed lately, driving through Muncie more, that these horrible advertising pieces continue to pop-up everywhere. Not only that, they're coming up with new methods to make them harder to take down. To the left is a sign at 600 W and West Jackson. (I don't see a phone number, though, so maybe it's legitimate?) You can't make it out on the small shot, but it promises a mystery summer. Am I just out of the loop? To the right is a close-up of what they're using to affix another, nearby sign to a utility pole - some kind of washer with a nail gun from what I can tell. Staples, remnants of signs no more, scar the exterior of the pole. It's taken a beating over the years.

What I don't understand, is that if it's illegal, why do they get away with it while having their phone numbers listed. Are they fined at all? Anyone know?

If no one speaks up in the next couple days, I'll try to do some research about the utility pole advertising menace and the laws on the books to defeat it. Surely there are some, although I'm not finding anything with Google.

Is the fine so small that it's considered an 'advertising fee' for a 'billboard' of sorts? It's like real life SPAM, ya know? I'm gonna be collecting more shots like this over the next few months. Maybe we can track down who is behind it all. ;)

If there's enough interest, maybe we could turn this into a more official story at a later date.
