Jobs, Jobs, Jobs

NEW CASTLE, IN - There's jobs to be had this winter if you want to work at a nearby manufacturing plant or the IBM Business Center.

A job fair will be held Tuesday at the Work One office locally at 3011 S. 14th St., to take applications for a Greensfield manufacturer. The hours are 10 a.m.-2 p.m. and you need a couple forms of identification, just like at the BMV.

State job recruiters could only say that Continental Inc., Anderson (www.continentalinc.com) is handling application. The employment firm recruits for Brevini and other area auto parts manufacturers, and Greensfield has its share to support Honda Manufacturing of Indiana located just south in Greensburg. Both Keihin and Indiana Auto Fasteners has plants in Greensfield.

Honda just added a second shift last October, continuing to add as 1,000 more workers. Honda manufactures the popular Civic Sedan and the alternate-fuel Civic Natural Gas at the plant that opened in 2008. The projection is 200,000 vehicles a year and just go to www.indiana.honda.com for more details and employment opportunities.

Manpower  continues to take applications for customer service and accounting positions at the IBM call center in Daleville. Dozens of jobs have been added to IBM's group that includes Phillips and Apple, and the online hookup is www.directch.com/dalevillein of manpowerjobs.com. You can find Manpower on White River Boulevard at Tillotson Avenue In Muncie.

Progress Rail

Progress Rail (www.progressrail.com) might be hiring some more folks next month after Work One screened more applicants last fall. The locomotive builder that is part of the Caterpillar Co. showed off their new work recently, building engines for Mexico and Gabon in Africa. Less than 200 people work at the Cowan Road facility better known as the old Westinghouse plant. and it is a new generation of manufacturing in Muncie. Certainly this is a story of the year after the automobile industry  like Chevy, Delco and Borg Warner are now just vacant lots or empty buildings.
