Muncie police reorganization

MUNCIE, IN - The Muncie Police Department recently reorganized after the appointment of Steve Stewart as police chief by Mayor Dennis Tyler.

Former chief Deborah Davis, Muncie's first female police chief, returned to a captain's rank and was assigned to the afternoon shift of the uniform division by the Muncie Police Merit Commission. The other uniform captain is Joe Todd who is daytime shift commander.  Deputy Chief Mark Vollmar had previously served as captain of the detectives division. Lt. Steve Cox, who heads the department's SWAT team, will now supervise investigations. And Lt. Al Williams continues to head the department drug enforcement team.

Former Deputy Chief Roc Barrett returned to a lieutenant's rank and was assigned to the uniform midnight shift supervisor. Because there was no vacant lieutenant's position, Sharyl Mench was bumped back to a sergeant's rank.

Dea Moore, principal at Sutton Elementary School, was re-elected as commission president while Ed Siler serves as vice president.
