Fire in Old West End Neighborhood Put Out Quickly

MUNCIE - Derrick Ayers, owner of the apartment house at 912 W. Charles (See Map), was next door putting his daughter to bed when he noticed the fire. According to Ayers, there was no official word on the cause of the fire, although two propane tanks in the rear of the house were thought to have played a role.Several neighbors noted the quick response time by Muncie Fire Department, Muncie Police, and Delaware County EMS.

An elderly tenant on the first floor of the house converted into apartments was treated for minor smoke inhalation. Several tanks of oxygen were also removed from the house.
