Unofficial TSP Forum Watch 9

Another week, another edition, another addition to the pile of words on this site. I hope to generate some discussion this week. We've quieted down a little the last week, as I'm sure some of you have noticed. (And yes, I'm still thinking of a way to duplicate the TSP forum 'look and feel' for those of you uncomfortable with change.) Anyway, without any further ado, the unnofficial The Star Press Forum Watch.Local Politics

  • Potholes - Muncienews drops a question and leaves. The community picks it up, though, with Tom Bennington, a commisioner, showing up on the thread. We need to get him posting here too. Anyone want to 'get on that'? ;)
  • Canan's Letter to Editor - Flyscot starts up a good conversation and even sticks around to participate in it. I also have to wonder why the Mayor didn't submit his letter to Muncie Free Press as well. Hmm. Anyway, you have to weed through some of the posts, but it's a good thread overall. People are talking, which is vital for a democracy.
  • House Bill 1172 - Leon starts this post, which soon devolves into yet another abortion debate. Not much new here. Hearing about the bill was good, though.

National Politics

  • Take it Back - New Carville/Begala book - Mdarrall (a great poster who I can't convince to learn to post here, sadly) starts up a thread about a book he's reading. Leon brings up the local Demos. A discussion about the book might happen, though.
  • Bush/State of the Union - Muncienews (I'm guessing the newsroom half of that identity) drops a question and leaves. The usual suspects show up to discuss the event. I still say this was really cool and sums it up well.
  • Rightists vs Leftists - Sorry, Leon, but this is a typical post. Mdarrall turns it on its head, though, which is nice. ;)

Local Events

  • Tattoo's - The traitor Draconis ... Heh. Just Kidding! I can understand why he would post it there. It's getting a little boring with the same four or five of us commenting over here at MFP. I'm working on that, though. Anyway, Drac talks about Tats.
  • whatsup with Star Press Changes & Muncie edition of Indianapolis Star - More candid talk about what's going wrong with the local newspaper. Where is marketing to talk to them? I'm talking to them. I'm listening, too. Free wedding announcements and obits will return!
  • Indiana Economic Development - Dan MacDonald (yes, he's a MFP user too) starts up a good thread highlighting other areas in the state getting help with economic development - other areas doing it better than DelCo. (I guess I should apologize for snapping at Leon. I'm hurt he hasn't showed up here at MFP to post with half the frequency he posts with there. Surely with all that blog knowledge, he can retrieve his MFP password!?) Anyway, I also wanted to bring up this story, but of course I can't link to MFP from over there. They're still pretending I don't exist. Meanwhile, I was mentioned on AOL News, WSJ, OJR, and several other websites this past week. Oh well. The people will know about MFP eventually.
  • Downtown Development - The. Thread. That. Wouldn't. Die. Seriously. Anything new being said? I don't know. The size of the thread threatens me. That's the problem with phpBB that The Star Press uses - it doesn't handle archiving very well - not like here at MFP... Heh. There I go again. Sorry. It's been a busy, important week in MFP's history, though.
  • Selmagate - This probably shoulda went into another topic, but Ben Around starts up a thread about potential problems in Liberty and Perry Townships. Some interesting facts popping up here, though.
  • Sex Charges with MPD Officer? - Sure, this thread is missing a lot of things, but there is some serious citizen journalism happening, I believe. Especially this post by kahdang - another person who signed up here but doesn't post much, another person we need to beg to start posting here. ;)

Take it Outside

  • Escalating meanness - Ruh, row. Muncienews (the ericK side of the identity) closes up the thread - kinda humorous too. Maybe the TSP is finally cracking down. No, remember the note from last week. They don't want to do that.
  • What has Fly done to improve our community? - Normally a thread like this is a waste of time, but I think there's a few nuggets of valuable info buried in here. Lemme know what you think they are.

The Remainder

  • Invisible Police Patrols - Yet another huge, long thread that would not die. And yet another one full of people that know about MFP but refuse to come over here for whatever reason. Thing is, this thread shows many of the problems the software at MFP could help solve. Maybe it'll happen one day.
  • Comcast Cable - Starts as a bitch thread about Comcast Cable, but people are starting to compare prices. High Speed Internet is brought up more than once.

Closing Thoughts

The meltdown over at the TSP forums has seemed to slow a little. I think they probably booted yuri, slufigus and his crew, which should help. There are still one or two trollish usernames I can see, but I won't point them out here. In any case, remember, this is TELL A FRIEND ABOUT MFP MONTH, as well as Black History Month.
