CNN Newsroom to Broadcast Kokomo Report on July 4th

Kokomo Mayor Greg Goodnight was recently interviewed in downtown Kokomo by CCN business reporter Poppy Harlow.

KOKOMO, IN - CNN recently returned to Kokomo to follow-up on the city’s recent job gains after years of dire economic forecasts.  CNN business reporter Poppy Harlow interviewed Kokomo Mayor Greg Goodnight and local business owners regarding the local economy and prospects for the City’s future.

CNN producers notified the City of Kokomo that the report is scheduled to air during the 9:00 a.m., Wednesday July 4th, broadcast of CNN Newsroom.

“Kokomo’s story is that of a city rebounding from the brink of uncertainty, when the recession temporarily halted our major manufacturing facilities,” said Kokomo Mayor Greg Goodnight. “Our business, labor and civic leaders worked hard to lead our city into a position where companies are now investing in new equipment and adding jobs.”        

At the height of uncertainty for the American automobile industry, Kokomo had the second highest unemployment rate in the state and one of the highest in the nation.

By contrast, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics recently ranked the Kokomo Metropolitan Statistical Area (MSA) 24th in the nation out of 421 MSA’s surveyed from April 2011 to April 2012.  This data also ranks Kokomo 4th in the State of Indiana out of the 14 MSA’s.
